Our Bathroom Renovation Process in Vancouver

Every bathroom renovation in Vancouver we complete follows the same five steps. No surprises — just a clear process from start to finish.

  1. Consultation and Design

We visit your home, assess your bathroom, and listen to what you want the space to do for you. We discuss layout options, fixture selections, tile choices, and whether any structural changes are required. You see the plan before any demolition begins.

  2. Detailed Quote

You receive a comprehensive, itemised quote before any work begins. Every line item is explained — labour, materials, permits, fixtures. You know exactly what you are investing, with no vague estimates and no surprise costs at the end.

  3. Demolition and Waterproofing

We protect your home with dust barriers before we begin. Once demolition is complete, proper waterproofing goes in before anything else is installed. This step determines whether your renovation lasts twenty years or develops problems in five.

  4. Expert Construction

Our tradespeople complete all tile work, plumbing, electrical, and fixture installation to BC Building Code standards. Every material and installation is inspected before we move to the next phase. No shortcuts, no concealed problems.

  5. Final Walkthrough

We walk through every detail of your new bathroom together. You receive written warranty documentation on completion, and we do not consider the job done until you are fully satisfied.

Why Vancouver Homeowners Choose DELANA Interiors for Bathroom Renovation

Over 40 Years and 1,000+ Renovations Completed in Metro Vancouver

DELANA Interiors has been completing renovations in Vancouver since 1981. Bathroom renovation is technically demanding — waterproofing failures, improper plumbing, and tile failures are the most common reasons homeowners end up paying twice. Our track record reflects four decades of getting it right the first time.

Waterproofing Done Right — Every Time

The single biggest cause of bathroom renovation failures in Vancouver is inadequate waterproofing. Moisture gets behind the tile, reaches the structure, and causes mould, rot, and eventually a full redo. DELANA installs a proper waterproofing membrane system before any tile is set — on floors, in shower surrounds, and on any wet wall. This is standard on every project, not an upgrade.

Licensed, Bonded, and WorkSafe BC Registered

Every contractor we send to your home carries full liability insurance and is registered with WorkSafe BC. You are protected from the first day of demolition to the last day of installation. A licensed general contractor manages every bathroom renovation in Vancouver we complete — from permits through to final inspection.

We Pull Every City of Vancouver Building Permit

Bathroom renovations involving plumbing or electrical changes require a City of Vancouver building permit under the BC Building Code. DELANA pulls and manages every required permit and coordinates all inspections. You never have to navigate the permit process yourself or wonder whether the work was done to code.

One Team, One Schedule, One Point of Contact

You do not hire a plumber, a tile setter, an electrician, and a carpenter separately and hope they show up in the right order. DELANA manages every trade. One call reaches the right person every time — and the project runs on a schedule you can plan around.

How Much Does a Bathroom Renovation Cost in Vancouver?

A note before the numbers

Below are the going rates and average charges according to local statistics. However DELANA Interiors and Jim Lazos have a goal to break these numbers for your benefit. Our years of experience allow us to beat any price our competitors quote.

Average according to local statistics, bathroom renovation costs in Vancouver depend on the size of your bathroom, the scope of work, and the fixtures and finishes you select. Here is a realistic breakdown of going market rates for Metro Vancouver projects:

Powder room (25–50 sq ft)

$5,000–$12,000

New vanity, toilet, tile, fixtures, and lighting

Cosmetic refresh (existing layout)

$8,000–$15,000

New tile, vanity, fixtures, and hardware — no structural changes

Full bathroom renovation

$10,000–$20,000

Full gut, new waterproofing, custom tile, updated plumbing — actual cost depends on the finishes selected

Master ensuite renovation

$20,000–$35,000

Larger footprint, custom vanity, walk-in shower, soaker tub, in-floor radiant heat

Luxury ensuite or spa bathroom

Depends on finishes

Large format tile, frameless shower, Riobel or Kohler fixtures, custom vanity cabinetry, high-end lighting. Final cost is driven by the finishes selected — we provide a written breakdown after a site visit.

Notes about your final cost

  • The reality is that the actual and final price is controlled by you, since we are only supplying the products you have selected. Cheap material, average, standard, medium, and all the way to top of the line and high end determines the actual real cost
  • All construction, renovations, additions, and remodelling require a building permit — we walk you through what your project needs
  • We provide a full cost breakdown on request
  • We provide detailed drawings and a written estimate
  • We send past project photos on request
  • All work begins only after a written agreement signed by all parties
  • Any change to scope or finishes during the project is documented in a signed written addendum before that work begins — protecting your budget and ours
  • Our experience beats market prices

Vancouver labour rates are a significant part of your total cost. Plumbers run $100–$140 per hour, electricians $95–$130 per hour, and tile setters $8–$35 per square foot depending on material complexity. Budget a 10–20% contingency for older homes built before 1980, where hidden mould, outdated plumbing, and asbestos-containing materials are common discoveries behind walls.

The only way to get an accurate number for your bathroom is a proper in-home assessment — not a number from a website. Every bathroom is different. DELANA provides free, detailed estimates with no obligation.

Common Questions About Bathroom Renovation in Vancouver

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Vancouver BC?
A full bathroom renovation in Vancouver typically costs between $10,000 and $20,000. Powder room updates start around $5,000–$12,000, while a full master ensuite renovation with custom tile, walk-in shower, and heated floors runs higher and depends on the finishes you select. DELANA provides free, detailed estimates so you know the real number before any work begins — we work with every budget tier.
How much does an ensuite renovation cost in Vancouver?
An ensuite renovation in Vancouver typically starts at $20,000 and depends on the fixtures and finishes selected. Larger luxury ensuites with custom vanity cabinetry, a freestanding soaker tub, frameless shower enclosure, and in-floor radiant heat run higher. DELANA provides a full, itemised quote after assessing your space — not a rough estimate based on square footage.
Do I need a permit for a bathroom renovation in Vancouver?
Yes — if your bathroom renovation involves any changes to plumbing or electrical, a City of Vancouver building permit is required under the BC Building Code. This includes relocating fixtures, adding a new circuit, or upgrading your electrical panel. DELANA pulls and manages every required permit as part of the service. You never have to deal with the city directly.
How long does a bathroom renovation take in Vancouver?
Most full bathroom renovations in Vancouver take three to six weeks from demolition to final walkthrough. A straightforward cosmetic update with no layout changes runs shorter; a full ensuite gut with plumbing relocation, permit approval, and custom tile work takes longer. We give you a clear project schedule before work begins so you can plan accordingly.
Can I convert my tub to a walk-in shower in Vancouver?
Yes — a tub-to-shower conversion is one of the most common bathroom renovation requests we receive in Vancouver. It involves removing the existing bathtub, expanding the shower footprint, installing a proper waterproofing system, laying new tile, and fitting a frameless shower enclosure. DELANA handles the full conversion from demolition through to the final fixture installation, including any required plumbing permits.
